It's unseasonably cold in Southern California -- rain, wind and even snow. It had better hurry up and warm up so that dogs can get a chance to practice their surfing skills in time for the 6th annual Loews Dog Surfing Contest that takes place on June 4th at Imperial Beach in San Diego.
The event starts at 10.00am with practice sessions organized by the Coronado Surfing Academy and officially kicks off at 11.00 a.m.
Heat One: Small Surf Dogs (40 pounds and under)
Heat Two: Large Surf Dogs (41 pounds and over)
Heat Three: Tandem Surfing (multiple dogs and humans)
I think its such a great way for dogs to have fun in the sun and the sea and I am always amazed how many different pooches of all shapes and sizes are really adept at hanging 20. Many are better than their human counterparts. It probably has a lot to do with the fact that they don't really care if they make fools of themselves -- that's a people thing!
Well I certainly won't be there with my surfboard -- even if I had one; I am good at make a spectacle of myself. But I will be there to cheer them on. It should be a fun day.
Sun bleached surfers is such a Californian image -- now we have sun-bleached furry surfers too... Doggone wonderful!
I guess only in California ...
