Modern Dog Blogs

I am in Tyson’s Corner, Virginia this week at the fifth annual BlogPaws Conference – a gathering of some 500 pet influencers in the blogosphere – and their dogs. Yes, this is one conference where pets truly have status to come and go everywhere.

Purina invited to me attend their session on nutrition trends and used this platform for a presentation by Arleigh J. Reynolds highlighting the link between canine domestication and canine diets and more specifically focusing on a dog’s

There’s a field of grass I walk through when taking Penny on her daily dog walks. It’s loaded with tiny little daisies and the warm Spring weather has brought them into bloom. The sight of those sparkling white flowers set against the carpet of green grass brings me back to summers before when I’d walk with Penny’s predecessor, my Kaya-girl, a spirited Weimaraner/Pointer cross, who’d romp and play and race with her canine pals on that same long, open stretch of grass. On one beautiful, warm

Summertime and the living is easy  -- well that’s how the George Gershwin classic goes.

For me, summer is all about tropical fruit, hot nights, palm trees, a sea breeze and wonderful colorful island-style patterns especially on shirts and bikinis and, of course, top it off with a straw hat.

So I guess if you want to get your pooch into the summer swing too, then take a look at the latest Tommy Bahama Pets collection available at PetSmart. The toys and clothes are cute. But here

I have just launched a new radio show pet segment called House Pets which is part of the very popular The House Radio Show that covers all topics to do with both the home and garden – and now pets.

Pets are such an integral part of the home and garden that’s why I am so excited about joining this show. While plotting and planning segment ideas as we move into summer, it struck me that it also means that our dogs will be spending more time outdoors in the garden.

Unfortunately

The recent stretch of summer-like weather in my part of the world has inspired me to get up a little earlier and cycle to work. Rather than talk myself out of it as I sometimes do with arguments such as, “I’ve got to bring the car as I’ll need to quickly get to that after-work appointment”, or “I’ve got too many things to carry so I’ll need the car”, or worse yet, “it takes too long and I can better spend the time working”, I instead talk myself into it with just how much better I’ll feel

We all know what wonderful emotional support dogs can be in a time of crisis. They helped out at Sandy Hook Elementary School and they have been helping out in Boston too.

A pet store called Fish and Bone that is situated close to the site of the Boston tragedy remained open right after the bombings offering people a place to gather and hang around with dogs so that those affected by the events could pet them and play with them as therapy to recharge from this heinous crime against

I can’t stress often enough that the reason why so many dogs get into trouble around the home is because they are bored!

Fortunately behaviorists and toy manufacturers are pushing the idea more and more that our pets need both mental and physical stimulation. (The same goes for cats too by the way.)

There are lots of fabulous puzzle toys for dogs that really test their intelligence and give them something to do to keepthem busy by trying to puzzle out and retrieve the

I really enjoy attending pet expos. Naturally, they are geared to learning about new products. But it’s also a wonderful opportunity to catch up with friends and make new ones.
I am not too sure who is more passionate about their pets, men or women. I have never seen a survey that answers this question but my guess is its equal. But I have to admit I am always intrigued to meet men who are passionate about their pets and truly ‘’nanny” them.

This year, while wandering the

What it would look like if we could see the way dogs smell?  Would it be like a Scottish moor, hazed and thick, with ghosts and temptation?  Would it look like a map of the land, the boundaries defined by ancient treaty- an ambling, acrid line of scent separating what is yours from what is mine?  Would it be good to know what the neighbors down the street are having for dinner, or merely a nagging temptation?

And what of sight?  A less colorful world for sure, but what meat eater

Well I am finally back at my desk after several weeks, most of which were spent without Internet on tap in South Africa. There was no Wi-Fi connection where I was staying and I had to go to an Internet café to get on line. But when the Internet café lost its connection … well, that was it. Total isolation. It was nice – for a short while. Well I am happy to report that in the 12 months since I had been to Cape Town, there was suddenly more pet stores opening up and carrying a big bigger and
