Golden Retriever Saves Boy from Cougar Attack

Courageous dog hailed as a hero

By Melissa Barr

11 year-old Austin Forman thought it was cute when his family’s Golden Retriever, Angel, would not stop following him around January 2nd. When he went out into his Boston Bar, B.C., backyard, however, he became more grateful for his canine shadow than he could have imagined. On Austin’s way to pick up firewood, a fearsome cougar charged him. Angel stepped in front of him, fending off the cougar and likely saving the boy’s life.

Austin’s mother called for help and, unfortunately, the cougar had to be killed despite attempts to otherwise break up the fight. Amazingly, Angel survived and is expected to fully recover.

Jay Forman, the boy's father, said, "We're really lucky that he was saved by an Angel, because that's exactly what it was. There's no other word for it."

She is being hailed internationally as a hero.
